Meet Sherry Berecz
Sherry Berecz is a lifelong Downriver resident, a mom of three, and a proven public servant who has spent her career helping people and delivering for the community she calls home.
Born and raised in Brownstown, Sherry grew up with service to the community at the center of her life. Her father served as Brownstown’s longtime treasurer, and Sherry was just six years old when she first learned that public service meant showing up, listening to neighbors, and fighting for the community you love. That lesson has guided her entire career.
Sherry currently serves as Brownstown Township Supervisor, building on more than 25 years of trusted local leadership as Township Clerk and Township Trustee. In every role, she has focused on the work that matters: protecting taxpayer dollars, strengthening local services, and making Downriver a place where working families can live, work, and grow.
Her record of public service goes beyond township government. Sherry spent more than 20 years serving Wayne County, including work in the Department of Children and Family Services and the Alternative Work Force program, where she helped lead work rooted in accountability, second chances, and responsible stewardship of public resources.
Sherry graduated from Woodhaven High School, earned her degree in English from Madonna University, and later returned to school to earn her Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in State and Local Government from Central Michigan University.
Sherry’s commitment to working families is personal. As a former member of the Government Administrators Association and the mother of union members, she knows unions helped build the middle class. In Lansing, she will always defend workers’ rights, collective bargaining, and the dignity of good-paying work.
Sherry is running for State Representative to give Downriver families a strong voice in Lansing — someone who understands the community, knows how local government works, and will fight to lower costs, protect workers, and build an economy that works for everyone.
